Rekordmånga Emerging Markets-hedgefonder inför andra halvan av 2012

This year’s Alternative Fixed Income report from HedgeNordic explores how institutional investors and asset managers are navigating this new reality, balancing yield and resilience amid shifting credit cycles, structural change, and evolving sources of return.

Stockholm (HedgeFonder.nu) – Antalet hedgefonder med fokus på Emerging Markets når rekordhöga nivåer under andra kvartalet 2012 enligt den senaste industrirapporten HFR Emerging Markets Hedge Fund Industry Report från Hedge Fund Research. En positiv signal jämfört med den senaste tidens höga volatilitet och uttag ifrån investerare.

Antalet hedgefonder med fokus på Emerging Markets var 1 073 i utgången av Q2, vilket motsvarar ungefär 14 procent av alla hedgefonder, en ökning med 3,5 procent sedan Q2 2011.

Nära 60 procent av Emerging Markets-hedgefonderna följer fundamentala tillväxtstrategier, men även andra strategier vinner mark. Det gäller inte minst valutor, fixed income samt mer sofistikerade hedgefond-strategier enligt rapporten.

Makrostrategier, omfattande både s.k. discretionary och kvantitativa eller systematiska CTA-strategier, uppgår till nästan 13 procent av Emerging Markets hedgefonderna, en uppgång på nästan två procent från året innan. Det totala kapitalet under förvaltning för Fixed Income-baserade relative value arbitragestrategier har vuxit till nästan tio procent av alla det totala kapitalet under förvaltning inom Emerging Markets.

Emerging Markets-hedgefonder levererade starka resultat under de första sju månaderna av 2012 med latinamerikanska fonder i toppen av regionala Emerging Markets index. HFRI EM:s Latinamerika-index ökade med 3,9 procent under de senaste tolv månaderna till slutet av juli medan Brasiliens Bovespa-index under samma period var negativt.

Trots den starka utvecklingen och ökat antal Emerging Markets-hedgefonder föll den totala kaptalet under förvaltning inom Emerging Markets med tre procent från toppnoteringen under första kvartalet.
