Göteborg (FinWire) – Aktivistinvesteraren Carl Icahn får nu hårt motstånd i naturgasbolaget Cheniere Energy. Den välkända blankaren Jim Chanos, som driver Kynikos Associates, uppgav i en intervju med CNBC på onsdagen att han initierat en kort position i bolaget.

Icahn meddelade i augusti att han köpt på sig en storpost motsvarande 8,2 procent i Cheniere, en nyhet som fick aktien att lyfta.

Icahn uppgav då att naturgasbolag är undervärderade och att han hade för avsikt att söka samtal med bolaget. Bland annat investeringstakten, finansieringen och ersättningen till ledningen är områden där Icahn kan komma att ha åsikter. Nyligen meddelades att Cheniere utsett två personer från Icahns bolag till styrelsen.

Cheniere Energy har förlorat pengar under de senaste 21 åren, samtidigt är det sannolikt att bolaget kan komma att exportera naturgas, något som också väckt Icahns intresse.

Chanos uppgav i dagens intervju att han fick idén att blanka Cheniere i samband med att han arbetade med ett bet mot oljeproducenten Royal Dutch Shell. Han är däremot osäker på ifall han blankat Cheniere före eller efter att Icahn köpt på sig sin post i bolaget.
