Hedgefondgurun John Paulsons guldfond hårt drabbad

Stockholm (HedgeFonder.nu) – Den tidigare så framgångsrika och legendariska hedgefondförvaltaren John Paulson drabbades hårt av det kraftiga prisfallet för guldet under april.

Hans guldfond föll med hela 27%, hävdar personer med insyn i siffrorna i intervjuer med Bloomberg. Det förvaltade kapitalet vid utgången av mars var 700 miljoner USD, motsvarande ca 4,5 miljarder SEK.

Nedgången i april följer på en rad svaga månader och fonden har fallit med så mycket som 47% hittills i år och värdet på guldfonden har därmed reducerats med nästan 4 miljarder SEK.

En källa hävdar dessutom att fonden i stort sett består av Paulsons egna pengar.

Guldpriset föll 7,8% i april, inklusive den största nedgången under en tvådagarsperiod sedan januari 1980. Guldpriset har fortsatt att falla och ligger nu på ca 1.430 dollar per ounce.

Paulsons talesman Armel Leslie hos Walek & Associates ville inte kommentera avkastningen för Bloomberg. Paulson har totalt tillgångar för cirka 18 miljarder USD, motsvarande ca 115 miljarder SEK, i sina olika fonder.

Under Lehman-kraschen tjänade Paulsons fonder stora pengar genom att bland annat spekulera på att övervärderade obligationer inom sub-prime skulle falla.
