Susanna Urdmark is stepping back into a primary portfolio management role, joining Handelsbanken Fonder as the new portfolio manager of Handelsbanken Europa after stepping away from her role at Rhenman Healthcare Equity L/S a few years ago.

“We are delighted to welcome Susanna to our team. Her extensive experience in the equity market is already a valuable addition to our management,” says Tore Marken, Head of Nordic and European Equities at Handelsbanken Fonder.

Urdmark was previously co-head and senior portfolio manager of the long-biased long/short equity fund Rhenman Healthcare Equity L/S, which she co-managed alongside founder and CIO Henrik Rhenman from mid-2017 until her departure in 2023. Her return also marks a reunion with Handelsbanken Fonder, where she previously served as portfolio manager for the Global Healthcare Fund and worked as a sell-side senior equity analyst covering Nordic pharma and biotech companies at Handelsbanken Capital Markets.

With more than 25 years of experience in the equity market across roles including analyst, portfolio manager, hedge fund manager, CFO, and board member, Urdmark brings a broad and multidisciplinary perspective to her new role. Her investment approach is characterized by the ability to integrate macroeconomic and geopolitical developments with in-depth company analysis. Her experience spans multiple sectors and underpins a strong foundation in valuation, company analysis, and long-term value creation.

In connection with Urdmark’s appointment, Handelsbanken Europa will undergo several changes, including a broader investment mandate and a name change. While the fund remains focused on European equities, it will gain flexibility to invest across a wider range of companies and sectors, alongside an increase in the number of holdings. The fund’s name will change to Handelsbanken Europa from its previous name, Handelsbanken Europa Selektiv.

“I look forward to investing in European companies with the goal of delivering strong long-term returns for our investors.”

“Europe is undergoing one of the most significant economic transitions in modern history. It is very inspiring to have the opportunity to lead the fund in its new direction and to work alongside the portfolio management team at Handelsbanken Fonder,” says Urdmark. “I look forward to investing in European companies with the goal of delivering strong long-term returns for our investors.”
