Mandatum’s CTA Wins UCITS Hedge Award

Mandatum Managed Futures Fund has been named Best Performing Fund in the “CTA Trend Following” category among funds with less than $150 million in assets for 2025 at the UCITS Hedge Awards, organized annually by The Hedge Fund Journal. The fund also received top rankings over both two- and three-year horizons. The recognition comes on the back of strong performance in recent years, achieved in both supportive and more challenging environments for traditional trend-following strategies.

“We are proud to receive this industry recognition. It reflects the continuous enhancement of our systematic investment framework and the disciplined execution of our strategy,” says Ville Rantanen, Portfolio Manager at Mandatum. “We are grateful to our clients for their trust and to our team for their ongoing commitment and expertise.”

Ville Rantanen, Portfolio Manager at Mandatum.

Launched in 2019, Mandatum Managed Futures Fund employs a systematic trend-following strategy across equities, fixed income, and currencies. Unlike more traditional approaches, the fund incorporates dynamic risk allocation and regime detection models to identify the optimal combination of momentum signals under prevailing market conditions. This additional layer has proven instrumental in navigating more difficult periods for trend-followers, such as 2024 and 2025, while also allowing the strategy to fully participate in favorable environments like 2022.

Mandatum Managed Futures Fund delivered a return of 8.2 percent in 2025, with a two-year annualized return of 11.0 percent and a three-year annualized return of 6.7 percent. Over five years, the fund achieved an annualized return of 6.9 percent. Reflecting this track record, assets in the fund have recently surpassed the $100 million milestone.

The UCITS Hedge Awards recognize excellence among UCITS-compliant hedge funds globally, with a focus on performance, risk-adjusted returns, and consistency within peer groups. Mandatum Managed Futures Fund has also ranked among the top-performing trend-following CTAs in the Nordics in recent years, having been named “Best Nordic CTA” at the Nordic Hedge Award for two consecutive years, and is once again nominated for this year’s awards in April.
