Hedgefondåret 2012: Totala tillgångarna växte till 1.780 miljarder USD

Stockholm (HedgeFonder.nu) – Efter att hedgefonder startade året 2012 på ett starkt sätt med en uppgång på 4,16% under de två första månaderna, fick man sedan fyra månader i rad med negativ avkastning. Avkastningen kom tillbaka under andra halvåret, då hedgefonder steg med 3,92% tack vare att de globala marknaderna gick starkt till följd av positiva uttalanden från regeringar runt om i världen. Totala tillgångarna växte med 75 miljarder USD under 2012, vilket fick tillgångarna inom hedgefondindustrin att stiga till totalt 1.780 miljarder USD.

Aktiviteten vad gäller att öppna nya fonder saktade in under 2012 med 959 fonder som lanserades under året, medan antalet nedstängda fonder var det högsta sedan finanskrisen med 860 fonder som stängde butiken under 2012.

Det var fortsatt svårt att få in nytt kapital under året som gick. Nettoinflödet stannade på 19 miljarder USD för helåret.

Hedgefonder som fokuserade på emerging markets skapade den bästa avkastningen under 2012, med fonder inom Asien ex-Japan upp 10.5% under året, medan Latin Amerikanska fonder var upp 11,2%.

S.k. Distressed-kreditfonder levererade den starkaste avkastningen bland alla strategier med en uppgång på 12,2% under 2012, där fixed income och relative value-hedgefonder också avslutade året med tvåsiffriga uppgångar.
