STOCKHOLM (Direkt) Federal Reserve köpte 1 miljard dollar mot japanska yen den
18 mars i samband med att G7-länderna intervenerade på valutamarknaden för att
bromsa förstärknignen i den japanska valutan.

Det meddelade den amerikanska centralbanken på fredagskvällen, enligt Bloomberg
News.

Dollarköpen i mars var Federal Reserves första intervention på valutamarknaden
sedan 2000, då världens centralbanker försökta bromsa försvagningen i eurons
växelkurs.

Centralbankerna i G7 intervenerade efter att yenen stärkts till rekordnivån
76:25 mot dollarn, vilket skapade oro för att den starka valutakursen skulle
försvåra ansträngningarna för att få den japanska ekonomin att återhämta sig
efter den allvarliga jordbävningen och tsunamin den 11 mars.

“Storleken på interventionen visar att USA verkligen försökte demonstrera sin
solidaritet med Japan i detta svåra läge”, sade Greg Anderson, senior
valutastrateg vid Citigroup.

“Jag är tveksam till om det kommer att bli någon ny runda med interventioner om
vi inte får, vilket G7 har identifierat tidigare, en kaotisk ensidig marknad,
som vi hade dagen före interventionen”, fortsatte han.
