Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Jeppe Blirup is stepping down after a decade with Secure Spectrum and its sister firm, Alternative Equity Partners, where he managed the fund-of-hedge funds Secure Hedge. Since taking the fund’s reins in 2015, Blirup has overseen a transformation of the fund’s strategy and vision that led to strong performance in subsequent years. The management of Secure Hedge now continues under Jakob Møller Hommel, Secure Spectrum’s Head of Selection and Partner, and David Buhl, who has been working alongside Blirup since 2021.

“After 10 incredible years, it’s time for a new chapter,” announces Blirup, who most recently served as Senior Portfolio Manager at Secure Spectrum with a focus on private equity, hedge funds, and alternative credit. “My journey with Secure Spectrum and Alternative Equity Partners has been nothing short of amazing. I’m deeply grateful to all the brilliant colleagues and friends who have made this decade so fulfilling,” he continues. “Thank you to everyone at Secure Spectrum and Alternative Equity Partners for the unforgettable memories and experiences. I look forward to what the future holds!”

Jeppe Blirup was instrumental in guiding Secure Hedge through a transformation since becoming the fund’s portfolio manager in 2015. He focused on building a diversified portfolio of around a dozen hedge funds employing “idiosyncratic and niche strategies,” such as short activism, event-driven arbitrage, and opportunistic credit. This strategic overhaul started to bear fruits from 2019 and onwards, with the fund generating an annualized return of 6.1 percent in the past 60 months. Notably, Secure Hedge posted a record return of 11.6 percent in 2021 and managed a positive 0.3 percent return in the challenging market of 2022. Despite the strong performance, assets under management have declined from over DKK 750 million at the start of 2022 to under DKK 350 million by mid-2024.

As Blirup steps away, Secure Hedge continues to be managed by David Buhl, who transitioned from investment analyst to portfolio manager about a year ago, and Jakob Møller Hommel, a partner at Secure Spectrum who has been with the firm since 2012. Buhl started an investment analyst focusing on hedge fund analysis and selection at Secure Spectrum in 2021. Hommel serves as Head of Selection at Secure Spectrum, responsible for analysis and selection of asset managers within all asset classes through quantitative and qualitative analysis.
