    Hedgefonder fick in USD 72,2 miljarder under januari-maj

    Stockholm (HedgeNordic.com) – Investerare petade in ytterligare USD 72,2 miljarder i hedgefonder under första fem månaderna 2014, vilket gör det till den starkaste 5-månadersperioden sedan 2007, delvis på grund av rädsla för börsnedgångar och obligationspriser. Det framgår av en undersökning som presenterades häromdagen och citeras av Reuters.

    Hedgefonder attraherade USD 16,9 miljarder i kapital från investerare i maj, vilket var ner från +19,1 mdr i april men tillräckligt för att hissa upp industrins tillgångar till USD 2,3 biljoner, eller strax under sexårshögsta nivån, enligt data från TrimTabs/BarclayHedge.

    “Investerare i hedgefonder är avvaktande kring värderingen på andra marknader, inklusive aktier, obligationer och fastigheter”, säger David Santschi, CEO på TrimTabs Investment Research.

    Hedgefonder inom Fixed income/räntestrategier attraherade mest kapital, motsvarande USD 6 miljarder, medan inflöden i multi-strategi-fonder slog alla andra kategorier under de första fem månaderna, med +USD 21,3 miljarder.

    De starka inflödena till hedgefonder skedde trots sämre avkastning jämfört med aktier och obligationer under perioden.

    Hedgefonder gav i genomsnitt en avkastning på 2,4% under perioden enligt data från TrimTabs/BarclayHedge, vilket var sämre än uppgångarna på +4,1% för S&P 500-index och +3,9% för Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index.

    David Santschi säger att investerare i hedgefonder har avstått bättre avkastande aktier och obligationer till följd av en motvillighet att köpa på nuvarande dyra nivåer, i tillägg till oro för kursnedgångar. Detta efter att S&P 500 närmats sig rekordnivåer efter en uppgång på nästan 30% 2013.

    Den genomsnittliga hedgefonden globalt har stigit 3,2% under första halvåret i år, enligt data från HFR.
