USA: s regering vill minska oljeimporten med en tredjedel

WASHINGTON – Den amerikanska regeringen vill kraftigt minska USAs beroendet av importerad olja. Inom de närmaste tio åren ska importen minska med en tredjedel, enligt kraven från president Barack Obama, rapporterar New York Times. Det var huvudbudskapet i hans inledningsanförande om energipolitiken på onsdagen i Washington.

Enligt preliminära uppgifter om presidentens tal ville han presentera en blandning av olika åtgärder för att målet ska uppnås. Främst är det en fråga om att bromsa oljekonsumtionen i USA.

De bör produceras fler el-drivna bilar, lastbilar omvandlas till gas och byggas nya raffinaderier för biobränslen. Obamas nya initiativ kräver också gränser för fordons bränsleförbrukning. Utöver de begränsande åtgärderna vill han också driva på den inhemska oljeproduktionen och produktion av förnyelsebar energi.
