Insidertrading: Friande dom för lillebror Rajaratnam

Stockholm (HedgeNordic.com) – Rengan Rajaratnam, yngre brodern till den numera fängslade hedgefondgiganten Raj Rajaratnam, friades från alla misstankar om insidertrading efter endast fyra timmars överläggning av en jury i New York. För åklagarsidan var det den första förlusten. Det rapporterar Bloomberg.

Den äldre brodern Raj Rajaratnam, hedgefondmiljardär och medgrundare till Galleon Group, dömdes till 11 års fängelse efter att ha arresterats i oktober 2009 som den första i en lång rad i den stora insiderskandalen som uppdagades av FBI och SEC. Rengan Rajaratnam arbetade som trader på Galleon tillsammans med äldre brodern Raj.

Åklagarnas nederlag var den första förlusten för åklagarsidan sedan det inledande fallet, som öppnade vägen för totalt 85 fällande domar mot bland annat traders, analytiker, advokater och höga chefer.

Ett flertal jurymedlemmar i den federala domstolen menade att bevisen var alltför bristfälliga för en fällande dom och att Rengan Rajaratnam endast åtalats för att han fångats på band från telefonavlyssning vid samtal med sin bror.
