Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – David Buhl, an investment analyst focusing on hedge fund analysis and selection at Secure Spectrum, has been promoted to portfolio manager after completing his Master’s Degree in Applied Economics and Finance from Copenhagen Business School. Buhl has been working alongside Jeppe Blirup, Spectrum’s Head of Hedge Funds, and portfolio manager Andreas Skov to manage the fund of hedge funds, Secure Hedge.
Buhl’s journey at Secure Spectrum began in 2021 as a part-time investment analyst while pursuing his Master’s Degree, during which he authored his Master’s Thesis on “Navigating Activist Short-Selling.” He is now transitioning into a full-time portfolio manager position within the team overseeing Secure Hedge. “It’s incredibly cool to finally be a more integral part of Secure Spectrum than when I was a student,” comments Buhl. “I have some really talented colleagues, so it has been a pleasure to become part of the team full-time, and help continue to deliver a good product to all our customers and partners.”

David Buhl has been part of the team managing Secure Hedge, a fund of hedge funds investing in idiosyncratic and niche strategies, encompassing short activism, event-driven involving various types of arbitrage opportunities, opportunistic credit, among others. Originally launched in a fund structure in mid-2013, Secure Hedge has undergone strategic vision and strategy changes after the appointment of Jeppe Blirup as a portfolio manager in 2015. Buhl joined Blirup’s team in 2021.
Secure Hedge earned the title of the “Best Nordic Fund of Hedge Funds” of 2021 at the Nordic Hedge Award, having delivered an annualized return of 7.2 percent over the three years ending in 2021. The fund of hedge funds enjoyed its best year in 2021 with an advance of 11.6 percent before edging up 0.3 percent in the difficult market conditions of 2022. Secure Hedge, which oversees DKK 503 million in assets under management, advanced 0.4 percent in the first seven months of 2023.
