Starkaste inledningen sedan år 2000 för hedgefonder

Stockholm (HedgeFonder.nu) – Efter år 2011 då globala hedgefonder backade -5,26% enligt HFRI,  ser hedgefonder hittills under 2012 den starkaste inledningen på ett enskilt år vad gäller avkastning, sedan 2000. Uppgången är bred, där strategier som underpresterande förra året bidrar starkt till uppgången.

Uppgången i HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index med 2,14% i februari gör att förra årets nedgång i princip är återtaget. Aktiehedgefonder har haft det tydligaste positiva bidraget till uppgången i HFRI-index under 2012, där HFRI Equity Hedge Index steg 6,9% under februari. Uppgångarna var breda även bland understrategierna inom Equity Hedge-index, inklusive Fundamental Tillväxt, Kvalitetsbolag och Energi, där endast Short Bias-fonder (fonder med korta positioner mot marknaden, reds anm.) avvek från uppgångarna.

Den positiva utvecklingen under 2012 har varit breda, över alla större strategier, där Event Driven, Relative Value Arbitrage och Macro visar uppgångar under början av 2012. Aktie-, M&A and kreditkänsliga strategier har rapporterat starka uppgångar, HFRI Event Driven Index steg 1,9% i februari (+4,6% ack 2012) med signifikant positivt bidrag från Aktiviststrategier och Special Situations. Likartat visade fixed income-baserade Relative Value Arbitrage-fonder uppgångar på 1,7% i februari (+3,6% ack 2012) när spreadar blev tajtare och stark likviditet bidrog till positiv utveckling inom Arbitrage. Macrofonder har också rapporterat positiva resultat trots volatila miljön för råvaror och trendföljande strategier. HFRI Macro Index, som steg 1,2% i februari, har stigit 2,4% hittills under året trots nedgångar bland de flesta råvarubaserade hedgefonderna. Systematiska, trendföljande Macrofonder steg 1,1% i februari och har gett en avkastning om 1,5% under 2012.

Emerging Markets-hedgefonder har också rapporterat starka siffror, där HFRI Emerging Markets (Total) Index steg 4,3% i februari och 9,3% för de två första månaderna av 2012. Även om uppgångarna har varit starka inom hela Emerging Markets-regionen har den starkaste uppgången (12,7% ack 2012) var bland fonder som investerar i Ryssland och Östeuropa.
