Polygon European Equity – Event-driven förvaltare i ropet. Stökig sommar för sektorn

Stockholm (HedgeFonder.nu) – Tidigare under året var det många inom hedgefondvärlden som talade om Event Driven som den strategi som hade framtiden för sig, i takt med en förväntad ökning av företagsuppköp och sammanslagningar bland börsbolagen. Men omvärlden har skakats om i grunden – inte minst under sommarmånaderna, som varit svåra för hela sektorn.

Den Londonbaserade hedgefondförvaltaren Polygon Investment Partners, med grundare och Chief Investment Officer, Reade Griffith, driver fonden Polygon European Equity Opportunity Fund sedan den 8 juli 2009. Reade Griffith arbetade tidigare för Citadel Investment Group, en multi-strategi-fond där han började arbeta 1998, där han var partner och Senior Managing Director med ansvar för att sköta de globala Event-driven arbitrageteamen i Tokyo, London och Chicago.

Polygon har hittills sammantaget ett mycket bra track reckord under den korta tid fonden varit igång. Avkastningen sedan starten är +54,67%. Som en jämförelse har HFRX Event Driven-index gått upp 5,43% under samma period.

Dock har sommaren varit utmanande för förvaltarna – liksom för hela sektorn. Fonden är ca -9,5% under juni-augusti och helårssiffran uppgår till -4,92% för helåret. Augusti månad innebar en nedgång med -6,63%, medan HFRX Event Driven-index är -4,05% under augusti, men fortsatt +5,43% för helåret.

Med en genomsnittlig årlig avkastning på +22,54% så har fonden slagit HFRX Event Driven-index, som gett en genomsnittlig avkastning på +2.5% under samma period. Fondens avkastning har skapats med en tämligen låg standardavvikelse på 11,41% och en Sharp-kvot på 1,5.
