Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Swedish fund boutique Tidan Capital is set to launch a market-neutral volatility and options arbitrage strategy named Nova, under the stewardship of newly appointed portfolio manager Magnus Linder. The strategy is slated for an initial launch during the summer as part of a bespoke mandate for a large US institutional investor. Subsequently, in the third quarter, Tidan Capital will launch a commingled fund within Tidan’s RAIF structure in Luxembourg, with seed capital provided by a Swedish family office.

Magnus Linder (pictured left) joins Tidan Capital from Swedbank Robur, where spent the past 13 years in Equities and Derivatives Trading. As Head of Portfolio Optimization and Derivatives Trading, he was responsible for Robur’s derivatives trading, managing exposure optimization, tactical allocation trades, arbitrage, and portfolio hedging, all within prescribed risk and exposure limits. Linder also collaborated closely with Nasdaq, EUREX, and CME on the launch of ESG derivatives. Linder assumes the role of Head of Volatility and Options Arbitrage strategies at Tidan Capital effective immediately, contributing to strategic decisions as a partner at Tidan Capital and serving on the investment committee.

“The recruitment of Magnus is a testament to Tidan Capital’s commitment to sourcing the foremost talent in the industry.”

Michael Falken, CIO of Tidan Capital

“The recruitment of Magnus is a testament to Tidan Capital’s commitment to sourcing the foremost talent in the industry,” remarks Michael Falken (pictured right), CIO of Tidan Capital. “Magnus’s deep expertise in options and overlays and his proven track record will be invaluable for our investors as we diversify our suite of market-neutral strategies,” continues Falken, who established Tidan Capital in 2020 with a team of Brummer & Partners alumni, including ex-Goldman Sachs capital structure veteran William Wilson. “Joining Tidan Capital felt like a natural alignment of culture and vision, integral to my decision,” Magnus Linder comments on joining the boutique. “I look forward to enriching the firm with my expertise in options trading and thriving in a culture that champions collective growth.”

The Nova strategy, set to be launched under the umbrella of Tidan Capital in the second quarter, was conceptualized and market-tested by Magnus Linder during his tenure at Swedbank Robur. According to the team at Tidan, the Nova strategy has demonstrated robust absolute returns and resilience amidst volatile market conditions in recent years, notably navigating the challenging market landscape of 2022. “The Nova strategy is uniquely positioned with its robust absolute returns and strong performance in volatile markets, providing a critical counterbalance when volatility spikes challenge peer funds,” notes Serge Houles, Head of Client Portfolio Management at Tidan. “Magnus’s approach seamlessly aligns with our philosophy of crafting relevant, impactful investment solutions.”

Tidan Capital has been running a capital structure relative value strategy under the Tidan Fund since October 2021. Following a somewhat challenging start in 2022 and 2023, Tidan Fund enjoyed a solid start to 2024 after gaining 7.6 percent in the first quarter. The incorporation of new strategies signifies a natural progression of Tidan Capital’s foundational vision of delivering consistent, uncorrelated alpha, as per the team at Tidan Capital.
