Candidates for the Rookie of the Year 2022

Powering Hedge Funds

Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – One of the first distinctions up for grabs in the early stage of a Nordic hedge fund’s lifecycle is the “Best New Nordic Hedge Fund Launch,” or, “Rookie of the Year.” At the Nordic Hedge Award, a jury board of fellow Nordic hedge fund managers will choose the most promising hedge fund launch of 2022 from a pool of 11 qualified funds. The funds qualified as “Rookie of the Year” are:

Borea KredittCoeli Global OpportunitiesDanske Invest Global Alternative OpportunitiesGlobal Assets Dynamic
Othania Globale AktierOthania Stabil InvesteringPensum Global OpportunitiesProtean Select
Tidan FundVisio Siilo FundWavebreaker Fund

The 11 hedge funds considered for the “Rookie of the Year 2022” award were launched during the 12-month period through the end of September last year. Funds launched later than September will qualify for next year’s “Rookie of the Year” award. Funds must be listed in the Nordic Hedge Index and meet the criteria required for such listing. There is no minimum or maximum requirement for assets under management to be considered. The “Rookie of the Year” is determined by the combined scoring of a jury board comprised of Nordic fellow fund managers, making this a peer group award.

For the 2022 Nordic Hedge Award, the “Rookie” jury consists of Ville Rantanen of Mandatum Asset Management; Anna Svahn of Antiloop Hedge; Secure Spectrum’s Head of Hedge Funds, Jeppe Blirup; DNB’s Head of Absolute Return Selection, Lena Öberg; and Symmetry Invest’s Andreas Aaen. The members of the jury select what in their opinion represents the most promising hedge fund debut of the passing year by considering a host of qualitative assessments at their discretion. The jury members are invited to consider a set of questions such as:

  • Which of the qualifying funds would I, for my personal portfolio or for the fund portfolio/selection I am responsible for, be most comfortable investing in, despite its short track record and likely small size?
  • Which of the funds is likely and positioned to build a respectable and outstanding, long-lasting and robust track record?
  • Which of the funds is likely to have a meaningful impact on the Nordic hedge fund universe (potential to be “star manager,” sizeable assets…)?
  • Which of the funds is positioned to be a “Billion Dollar Fund” (if that is even desired or the intention, within the capacity of the strategy)?

The winner will be announced on the 19th of April, 2023 at the final event of the Nordic Hedge Award in Stockholm. To learn more about the “Rookie of the Year” award and previous winners, please click here: Rookie of the Year.
