Three Nordic Winners at HFM Awards

Powering Hedge Funds

Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Three Nordic asset managers, Oslo Asset Management, Lynx Asset Management, and Storm Capital Management, were awarded during the HFM European Performance Awards 2022 ceremony at the Natural History Museum in London last week.

The winners of the 2022 HFM European Performance Awards were announced in London on September 29, with the winners determined by a judging panel made up of institutional and private investors, as well as investment consultants. The judges focused on absolute performance, as well as volatility of returns and outperformance of a relevant benchmark index. They also took into consideration the funds’ relative assets under management, their three and five-year track records, nature of investment strategies, other supporting materials and professional knowledge about shortlisted funds.

OAM Absolute Return

Energy-focused long/short equity fund OAM Absolute Return was named the best fund in the “Global Equity Long-Term Performance (5 Years)” award category. The fund managed by Olso-based money manager Harald James Otterhaug ended 2021 up 45 percent after booking a full-year advance of nearly 51 percent in 2020. Up 17 percent in the first eight months of 2022, OAM Absolute Return has successfully recovered from a large drawdown in 2018-2019 that was driven by a set of inefficiencies that remained inefficient far too long.

“Since short-term investment performance often can be driven by chance and risk concentration, we particularly appreciate when our long-term investment strategy is acknowledged.”

“We are very proud of all the awards that Oslo Asset Management and the OAM Absolute Return Fund have been nominated for over the years,” comments Otterhaug. “Since short-term investment performance often can be driven by chance and risk concentration, we particularly appreciate when our long-term investment strategy is acknowledged,” he emphasizes. “Winning the Global Equity Long-term Performance (5 years) award at the HFM European Performance awards this year was an especially important confirmation that our fortitude and investment strategy pay off in the long run.” OAM Absolute Return has delivered an annualized return of 11.9 percent since launching in late 2005.

Lynx Asset Management

Swedish quantitative asset manager Lynx Asset Management saw two of its vehicles win awards at the HFM European Performance Awards last week. The asset manager’s Lynx 1.5 (Bermuda) fund won the “Managed futures (CTA) over $1bn” award category, ahead of peers such as Aspect Capital, Winton Capital Management, Transtrend, Gresham Investment Management and John Street Capital.

Lynx Asset Management’s Lynx UCITS fund, which also relies on the Lynx Pogram, won the “Ucits – Managed Futures” award category. The asset manager’s Swedish-domiciled fund that is included in the Nordic Hedge Index – the Lynx Fund launched in 2000 – is one of the best-performing Nordic hedge funds this year with an yearly advance of 46.8 percent in the first three quarters of 2022.

“We are honored to have received these awards and even more gratified to have delivered differentiated performance to our investors during these exceptional times.”

“We are honored to have received these awards and even more gratified to have delivered differentiated performance to our investors during these exceptional times,” comments Martin Källström, Partner and Senior Managing Director at Lynx Asset Management. “The trust from our clients over the years has been instrumental to these achievements,” he continues. “Their commitment has enabled us to invest heavily in research and development and to build the operational infrastructure necessary to succeed. We hope to continue rewarding their faith in us in the future.”

Storm Bond Fund

Storm Bond Fund, a Nordic high-yield fund that is not a member of the Nordic Hedge Index, won the “UCITS – Credit” category at this year’s HFM European Performance Awards. The high-yield fund returned 13.6 percent in 2021 and 4.0 percent in the first nine months of 2022. “Proud and honored that Storm Capital Management AS and our amazing team yesterday won the prestigious HFM European Performance Awards 2022 in the category UCITS – Credit,” commented Morten Eivindssøn Astrup, Founding Partner at Storm Capital Management.
