Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Part of the founding team that launched the Wavebreaker Fund in early 2022, non-executive director Thomas Gunnarsson has now joined QLO Advisors – the manager of the Wavebreaker strategy – as Partner and Chief Operating Officer. Gunnarsson has previously served as the CIO of Sparinvest, CFO of Bankinvest, among others.

“We are pleased to announce that Thomas Gunnarsson has joined QLO Advisors as Partner and Chief Operating Officer,” says an announcement by QLO Advisors. “Thomas brings extensive expertise and experience to the team and will significantly strengthen our capacity for further growth,” the announcement continues. “He has previously held senior investment- and managerial positions at leading pension and asset management firms, including Industrivärden, ATP, BankInvest and Sparinvest/Nykredit.”

“We are pleased to announce that Thomas Gunnarsson has joined QLO Advisors as Partner and Chief Operating Officer.”

Wavebreaker, a quantitative trend-following strategy that also mixes in a systematic asset allocation strategy and discretionary macro overlays, was initially launched as a managed account in January 2019 by CIO Lars Wind and co-manager Betina Wolf-Andersen. Wind launched the first iteration of this strategy at Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, back in 2006 and later took an internal ticket of $200 million from Danish pension fund ATP alongside the strategy’s co-manager Betina Wolf-Andersen.

Thomas Gunnarsson joined the duo as a non-executive director in September 2021 to help launch Wavebreaker in an Irish structure at the beginning of 2022. Early in his career, Gunnarsson worked as an analyst, trader and portfolio manager at Industrivarden for seven years. He also spent several years at ATP and its funds of hedge funds division as CIO, CFO and CEO before joining Bankinvest as CFO in 2016. He also worked as the CIO of Sparinvest and CIO of Alternatives and Multi-Assets at Nykredit.

Wavebreaker is an absolute return strategy aiming to deliver positive returns across all market cycles using a combination of systematic trend-following and fundamental global macro. The fund has advanced 5.4 percent since launching in an Irish fund structure in early 2022 after booking a gain of 1.3 percent in June, its fifth positive month in six this year.
