Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – The Hedge Fund Journal, a monthly magazine focusing on the global hedge fund industry, has announced the winners of the 2022 UCITS Hedge Awards, with the list of winners featuring two Nordic hedge funds. Norwegian Sissener Canopus, a frequent winner at the UCITS Hedge Awards, and Nordea 1 – Alpha 15 MA Fund were the two Nordic winners at this year’s edition of the UCITS Hedge Awards.

The winners of all categories at the UCITS Hedge Awards are determined based on risk-adjusted returns, namely Sharpe ratios. Only hedge fund vehicles listed in the LuxHedge database qualify for the UCITS Hedge Awards. The data and quantitative measures of performance used to select the candidates and winners were provided by LuxHedge, a marketplace for Alternative UCITS funds.

Sissener Canopus, which predominantly employs a discretionary long/short equity strategy based on bottom-up stock picking, has been named the best performing fund over the previous five- and seven-year periods in the “Long/Short Equity – Global – Discretionary (AUM < $1bn)” category. The fund run by Sissener founder Jan Petter Sissener and portfolio manager Bjørn Tore Urdal has generated an annualized return of 7.7 percent in the past five years through the end of February this year. The fund’s annualized return over the past seven years reached 9.3 percent, whereas its inception-to-date annualized return reached 12.3 percent. Sissener Canopus was launched in April of 2012.

“We are happy to announce that our fund Sissener Canopus just won the category “Best Performing Fund over 5 and 7 Years – Global Long/Short Equity” at The Hedge Fund Journal’s UCITS Hedge Awards 2022.”

“We are happy to announce that our fund Sissener Canopus just won the category “Best Performing Fund over 5 and 7 Years – Global Long/Short Equity” at The Hedge Fund Journal’s UCITS Hedge Awards 2022,” the team at Sissener comments the recognition. “We appreciate the recognition of our team effort and results since inception in April 2012.”

One multi-asset, multi-strategy fund part of Nordea Asset Management’s Alpha Solutions suite has also been crowned at the 2022 UCITS Hedge Awards. Nordea’s Alpha family comprises Alpha 7 MA Fund, Alpha 10 MA Fund, and Alpha 15 MA Fund, with all sharing the same investment approach but exhibiting different risk-return profiles. Nordea’s Alpha 15 MA Fund, the most aggressive member of the family, has been selected as the best performing fund over the past three, four, five, seven years and ten years in the “Alternative Risk Premia” category.

“We are delighted that our Nordea 1 – Alpha 15 MA Fund has been awarded Best Performing Fund at UCITS Hedge Awards 2022.”

“We are delighted that our Nordea 1 – Alpha 15 MA Fund has been awarded Best Performing Fund at UCITS Hedge Awards 2022,” comments the Nordea team. The three funds managed by Nordea’s multi-asset investment team headed by Asbjørn Trolle Hansen combine several low-correlated strategies to provide dynamic exposure to multiple asset classes, seeking to capture both traditional and non-traditional risk-premia return drivers. Nordea 1 – Alpha 15 MA Fund had almost €5.0 billion in assets under management at the end of last year, with the entire Alpha suite managing in excess of €10 billion as of the end of December. This fund has also been nominated in the “Best Nordic Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund” category at this year’s edition of the Nordic Hedge Award.
