Janus Henderson Onboards Danske Bank’s EMD Team

Powering Hedge Funds

Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Asset manager Janus Henderson is expanding its fixed income franchise with the hiring of Danske Bank Asset Management’s four-person Emerging Market Debt (EMD) team consisting of Bent Elvin Lystbaek, Jacob Ellinge Nielsen, Thomas Haugaard, and Sorin Pirău. Set to join Janus Henderson by September this year, the team will be based in Copenhagen and will report to Global Head of Fixed Income Jim Cielinski.

According to Cielinski, the onboarding of Danske Bank’s EMD team seeks to meet client needs for standalone emerging market debt strategies, and enhance Janus Henderson’s global fixed-income franchise and its ability to build multi-sector fixed income solutions. “Emerging markets debt is a fast-growing segment of the market that many investors look to for higher income and risk-adjusted returns,” says Cielinski. “We believe this is a critical component of a global fixed income platform that supports single-strategy and multi-sector portfolios.”

“Adding this EMD hard currency capability to Janus Henderson’s global fixed income platform complements our existing strengths in Emerging Market corporate credit, global bonds, and Emerging Market equities.”

“Adding this EMD hard currency capability to Janus Henderson’s global fixed income platform complements our existing strengths in Emerging Market corporate credit, global bonds, and Emerging Market equities,” Cielinski comments on the four-person EMD team joining Janus Henderson. “We are excited to welcome our new colleagues Bent, Jacob, Thomas, and Sorin to Janus Henderson and look forward to generating risk-adjusted returns for our clients.”

Bent Elvin Lystbaek, Jacob Ellinge Nielsen, Thomas Haugaard, and Sorin Pirău form the management team behind the emerging markets debt hard currency strategy at Danske Bank Asset Management, which invests in government bonds in countries such as Mexico, Ivory Coast, Mongolia and Jamaica. The team has managed  €6 billion in hard currency EMD pooled vehicles and segregated accounts for both institutional and retail clients. The team’s investment process seeks to generate alpha through country allocation and security selection, focusing on credit risk premia.

“Hiring a world-class EMD team demonstrates our commitment to responding to our clients’ needs and supporting the growth of our firm.”
