Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Four Nordic hedge fund managers received recognition at this year’s Hedgeweek European Awards, with the winners determined by an online poll among the Hedgeweek userbase. Funds from Proxy P Management and Othania Capital received awards in their respective strategy categories, while Rhenman Healthcare Equity L/S co-managed by Susanna Urdmark won the “Best Female Fund Manager” award and Accendo Capital won the “Manager of the Year” award.
Nominations for all manager award categories at the 2022 Hedgeweek European Awards were based on returns over the 12-month period starting September 2020 through the end of August 2021 based on pre-selection data provided by Bloomberg. Nominations in various award categories were split by size and strategy as specified in the award name, with all nominees having a track record of more than three years. The winners in each category were selected by an online poll of the Hedgeweek userbase, where participants were asked to make their choice among shortlisted managers in each category.
Activist investor Accendo Capital was voted the “Manager of the Year” at the 2022 Hedgeweek European Awards. Accendo booked a full-year gain of 58.4 percent for 2021 to bring its annualized return over the previous three years to 57.5 percent. The fund has delivered an annualized return of 15.8 percent since launching in early 2008 through February this year, reflecting the success of the Accendo team’s collaborative campaigns of value creation in a select group of listed tech-focused companies in the Nordics.
Healthcare-focused Rhenman Healthcare Equity L/S, co-managed by Susanna Urdmark and its founder Henrik Rhenman, was named “Best Female Fund Manager” at this year’s edition of the Hedgeweek European Awards. The healthcare long-biased long/short equity fund, which oversees more than $1 billion in assets under management, has generated an annualized return of 17.5 percent since launching in mid-2009 through the end of February this year. Urdmark has been a portfolio manager of Rhenman Healthcare Equity L/S since 2017.
Othania Invest, the first fund managed by Danish boutique asset manager Othania, was voted “Best Macro (ex CTA & Crypto) Fund.” The fund relies on a systematic risk-on and risk-off approach to invest in equity and bond exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Othania Invest has delivered an annualized return of 9.3 percent since its launch in April 2016 to reach an inception-to-date Sharpe ratio of 0.8. “We are incredibly proud to once again win an international award, this time at the Hedgeweek European Awards 2022,” comments Othania founder and CIO Vincent Dilling-Larsen. “We believe in a systematic approach to our investments, and this is yet another stamp of approval and recognition of our approach and our work with Othania Invest.”
Stockholm-based Proxy Renewable Long/Short Energy, meanwhile, was recognized as the “Best Emerging Manager in Equity Hedge.” The energy transition-focused fund managed by Swedish hedge fund manager Proxy P Management has reached an annualized return of 34 percent since its launch in late 2018 after booking a full-year advance of 83 percent in 2020. The fund is up 8.7 percent in the first two months of 2022 after edging down 3.6 percent last year. “Proud of the team to win another prize, this time for being elected best emerging manager by Hedgeweek,” comments Proxy P’s founder and CIO Dan Lindström.
