STOCKHOLM (Direkt) Efterfrågan på guld i Indien, världens största konsument, är “måttlig” på grund av att en svagare valuta resulterar i högre inhemska priser.

Det sade Rajesh Mehta, styrelseordförande för Rajesh Exports, Indiens största exportör av guldsmycken, i en intervju med Bloomberg News.

Importen kan komma att minska med 15-20 procent under det första kvartalet
jämfört med samma kvartal 2011. Efterfrågan under helåret 2012 kommer troligen att landa på liknande nivåer som 2011, enligt Rajesh Mehta.

Bombay Bullion Association meddelade på tisdagen att de tror att importen av guld kommer att falla med hela 48 procent under det första kvartalet, något som Rajesh Mehta ser som osannolikt.

“Det råder ingen tvekan om att efterfrågan kommer att vara lägre.” Men nedgången i import kommer inte vara “så stor som 48 procent”, sade han.
