Swedish alternative investment boutique Atlant Fonder has made two appointments over the summer, hiring Mark Mehtonen as portfolio manager and Rikard Östback as chief technology officer. Mehtonen joins the investment team with more than 20 years of experience across international investment banks and institutional asset management, most recently serving as Head of Equity Derivatives Sales at Société Générale in Stockholm.
“A lot of positive things have happened at Atlant Fonder over the summer. We have recruited two new employees,” says Michael Ekelund, Deputy CEO of Atlant Fonder. “To further strengthen the investment team, Atlant Fonder has recruited Mark Mehtonen as a portfolio manager, starting in August 2026. At the same time, Rikard Östback was recruited as CTO.”

Mehtonen brings more than 20 years of experience from international financial institutions. Most recently, he spent five years at Société Générale in Stockholm, where he was Head of Equity Derivatives Sales. Earlier in his career, he worked at Morgan Stanley in London and at Finnish pension insurer Ilmarinen, where he was part of Ilmarinen Alpha, the institution’s internal hedge fund unit. “His experience in portfolio management, derivatives and institutional asset management represents a significant strengthening of the investment team’s expertise, international network and analytical capabilities,” says Ekelund.
Östback joins Atlant Fonder from Danske Bank and Swedbank, where he held roles as a derivatives trader. His background in trading and financial markets adds further technical and markets expertise to the boutique’s operating platform. “The appointment represents a substantial strengthening of the company’s technical, operational and risk-management capabilities,” Ekelund says.
The hires come as Atlant Fonder oversees more than SEK 10 billion in assets across eight funds spanning defensive, income-oriented and more opportunistic strategies. The range includes the corporate bond strategies Atlant Räntefond Stabil and Atlant Högräntefond; the market-neutral funds Atlant Opportunity and Atlant Edge; the fund-of-funds Atlant Multi-Strategy; thematic fund Green Tech Metals; in addition to Atlant Sharp and Atlant Protect. Atlant Opportunity remains the firm’s flagship strategy, with SEK 7.4 billion in assets under management.
