Stockholm (HedgeNordic) – Fund boutique Kvartil has expanded its team with the hiring of Gustav Gistvik, a senior quantitative analyst from the capital structure arbitrage hedge fund, Tidan. Gistvik has been working in the hedge fund industry as a quantitative analyst for more than five years, with his most recent roles at Tidan Capital, Frost Asset Management, and Nektar Asset Management.

“Kvartil is growing and it is with great pleasure that we welcome Gustav Gistvik, who is now strengthening our quantitative and analytical capabilities,” announces the team at Kvartil. With most of his career linked to different parts of the broader Brummer & Partners family of asset managers, Gistvik has now joined the data-driven fund boutique Kvartil. He most recently worked alongside Tidan’s ex-Brummer team that launched Tidan in October 2021. Tidan specializes in finding and capitalizing on mispricings and dislocations within capital structures.

Before his role at Tidan Capital in early 2022, Gistvik served as a quantitative analyst at the now-defunct Frost Asset Management. He was part of the founding team launching Frost, a fixed-income relative-value fund focused on Nordic markets. Gistvik also worked as a quant at Nektar Asset Management until its closure in 2019. After graduating with a M.Sc. in applied physics and financial mathematics from The Institute of Technology at Linköping University in 2014, Gistvik started his career as a valuation analyst at Brummer Fund Services.

Kvartil was founded by Torbjörn Olofsson, previously a portfolio manager and partner at Brummer & Partners-backed Nektar Asset Management. Following his 15-year tenure in various roles at Nektar, Olofsson spent three years as the CIO and co-founder of the now-closed macro hedge fund, Ambrosia, beginning in the summer of 2015. In September 2018, Olofsson founded Stockholm-based asset manager Kvartil. Currently, Kvartil operates three different investment funds, one of which is a recently launched special investment fund that provides targeted exposure to the unlisted companies owned by listed investment companies. This exposure is achieved by neutralizing the exposure to their listed underlying holdings through short selling.
